I think that's the port for diagnostics machine.
I know it's for something garages use to run tests. (Atleast that's what I've been told).

Accents: Good looking cars. But try and buy parts for them and you either get ripped off or it doesn't work! :@

Yeah it looks like an OBDII socket, on the LC it is above the middle of the accelerator/brake pedal next to the bonnet release.

Its for a computer to plugged in when your car is not well or for tune ups and so on.

I can confirm that the port shown in that picture is the diagnostics port ... however, even though it conforms to the ODBII (or "ODB2") size, shape and connection method, it is not an ODBII port in the respect to the ODBII scanners you see on eBay.  I've bought 2 scanners off eBay - got the first yeeeeeeeeears ago, and the other about 4 years later ... neither will connect to the X3's ECU.

Unfortunately the only device I can find that will connect to the ECU and read / clear fault codes (amongst a number of other features as well) is Hyundai's "Hyscan" device.  I've done a lot of searching to see if I can buy one, but the only people that can buy them are Hyundai dealers - and they are not cheap (£500 was the cheapest, most basic one).

Which unfortunately means that to clear fault codes you need to go to the dealers and pay anything from £35 per time for the 5 minute privilege of reading and clearing your fault codes.  Just getting the fault codes read and having a quick check of the front left suspension for play (because it was rattling)at my local dealer cost me £70! Sad

Fortunately, there is a way of reading the fault codes manually on the X3.  The information should be in the Guides section of the forum Wink

It's worth noting at this point that the X3 logs and stored fault codes until they are cleared.  However, the LC onwards will do something different with fault codes ... that being that if the fault disappears for three consecutive engine starts the fault light will go out and the fault will stored as a previous fault.  If the ECU is reset (normally by disconnecting the battery and holding your foot on the brake pedal for 30 secs) all "active" fault codes will disappear and the light will go out - but they should remain stored in the memory.

Also, ODBII scanners should work from the LC onward Accents in the UK ... which is a bargain as they only cost around £30.
