car not running right
Mar 9th, 2010 at 5:38pm

so recently over the last couple of weeks my car seems to be running different from normal, ie dont seem to have any pull really, exhaust note is much quieter than normal, to me something is wrong, then the other week when filled up with petrol it seemed to all be running how it used to much more noise, lots of pull etc and also was a time for its 90000 mile service which i hoped would make it even better which it did for the day and now its gone back to the way it was quiet again and lack of pull.  Any idea what this could be?

pull out the plugs and check the colour on them,it should be a brown ish colour,if any other colour then you may need new plugs and get a new fuel filter if you not change the old one 1 b4.

changed the plugs during the service so they are fine but might be the fuel filter causing the problem.

ok ive still got this issue although now its staying,  the car is just not picking up at all and the exhaust sounds really quiet but when you let off the revs or rev it up i get a really bad tinny/raspy sound almost like the baffles in the exhaust have gone.  Would this make me believe that mt CAT has gone/going hence the change in the way the car perfoms?

Hmm ... could very well be the CAT mate, especially since pretty much everything else seems to be ok.

I suppose the only way to find out would be to remove the CAT and give it a shake Roll Eyes

are you using more fuel or same? dose it need oil top up within 1 week or 400-600 miles? it sound like either block injectors or dirty lamba sensor but its hard to pin down whats going on. Undecided

pull one of the injector out see any carbon buildup also change the fuel fillter.give the air sensor a clean.if that dont work then maybe get a ecu reading see any sensor is not working also can you get a compression test Smiley.

if your cat is gone you will get more pull and deeper note cause the exhust gas flow is onlonger held back by the cat.by decat you have more flow which makes few bhp so i dont think its the cat.

Errr, no Nikkei Roll Eyes ... if the CAT is damaged, normally the baffles inside break off and all sit at one end blocking the exhaust flow - hence lack of power (and normally a very hot CAT - possibly even glowing)

yeah if cats gone it will block the exhaust and restrict it causing power loss.
