Changing Dials
Feb 16th, 2010 at 7:05pm

Hi,

If i change the dials in my LC SI to a different set, what happens about the mileage? Is it a case of changing the counters or is it stuck that way?

Thanks

Realistically you should change the counters with your existing ones ... but I don't know if anyone has done this ... plus a guide on how to do so could technically allow other "unhonest" people to use this information to sell Accent's with "low mileage" when in fact they are probably high mileage cars  Undecided

Hyundai will either swap the clocks inside the instrument cluster, wind the clocks of the new one forward before supplying it, or leave it as zero, with a note in the service history that says at xxxxxx miles the instrument cluster was replaced.

I believe that all mileage counter will lock once they reach 999'999.9 miles / kilometers to prevent people from winding them on, through zero, and back upto a lower mileage than what their car actually has done - as this was a common practice in the past with dodgy dealers, hence most manufacturers prevented clock tampering by the design of the mechanism.

i had to change my milage when i fitted mvi clocks and to be honest its harder than you think.if you do decide to do it ,carefully remove the clocks then remove the clear cover on front get a needle or pin and very carefully use the pin to move the numbers back when doing it make sure the pin is on the white numbers when your moving them because if you move them putting the pin on the black bit it shows up. I know my question is slightly different from changing the mileage but it is about changing the dials! Wink

Is it possible to put dials from an LC2 into an LC as i want to have a digital display showing the miles.

iam not sure mate are the dash boards the same? if so they may fit but the wiring will probally be different so you would have to get a auto electrician to wire them up. Smiley

Yeah the dash is the same even the layout of the dials are the same its just that it has a digital counter instead of a manual counter, its ok if the speedometer is mechanical but if its electrical then i don't think it would work, so il try to get a pic of the back of the instrument cluster to see what things look like.

you could still do it if its wires instead of spedo cable just you would need the sensor etc from the gearbox if there not cable but its worth a look Smiley

yeah il look into it, hopefully it will be exactly the same (direct swap) because i don't fancy messing with the speedo cable or adding speedo sensors at the gearbox.
